We’re proud to announce that Lou Smith from Dedworth Green First School was invited to attend a Buckingham Palace Garden Party, hosted by HM The King yesterday. The theme of this garden party was “Education and Skills” and recognised those who support the education and skills sectors.

Lou has worked at Dedworth Green First School since 2006, firstly in the role of school caretaker before becoming Site Manager across the Dedworth Campus in 2021. She was nominated by Mark Mackie, Head of School, in recognition of her exceptional commitment to the school community and the wider Dedworth Campus. Her invitation is a testament to the positive impact she has made over many years of dedicated service. Fresh from her day at Buckingham Palace, Lou said “It was such an honour to attend the garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of my work in the education sector. The experience was a once in a lifetime moment for me. The attention to detail on everything from the entertainment to food was incredible and everyone looked amazing dressed up in the sunshine against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace. I feel proud to have represented so many of my colleagues who work so hard to make a difference in the lives of learners every day. “

From managing the site to supporting pupils with medical needs, helping at events and being a trusted presence for families and staff - she does it all with warmth and dedication.
