Oakfield First School transition to Read Write Inc reading scheme

Oakfield First School have an INSET day today as they transition to the Read Write Inc (RWI) reading scheme.

This is a nationally recognised programme that supports our drive for the robust and relentless teaching of phonics, ensuring consistency, rigour and high-quality early reading instruction across our school.

"Read Write Inc. gives our teachers the tools and structure they need to ensure every child becomes a confident, capable reader. Most importantly, it helps to inspire a lifelong love of reading." says Howard Seymour, Executive Headteacher and Director of Primary Education for Windsor Learning Partnership.

Read Write Inc. (RWI) provides a fun and structured way we teach children to read and write, starting from their very first sounds. Children learn sounds in a clear, structured order, starting simple and becoming more challenging as their confidence grows. They practise blending sounds to read and segmenting them to spell, while enjoying engaging lessons with "Fred Talk," storybooks matched to their phonics level, fun games, and writing activities. Lessons are taught in groups based on reading ability to ensure everyone learns at the right pace, helping them to become a confident, fluent reader and develop a love of books.
